Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Rankings: Dec. 13, 2018
Several teams that are not normally ranked by the coaches/media were noticed by the voters after 1 weekend of games.
The top 5 4A teams are all undefeated. Thunder Basin holds at #1. The Lady Bolts have the week off to prepare for games in Phoenix, Arizona next week. #2 Cheyenne East went 4-0 in Colorado last week, and will head south of the border again this weekend. #3 Campbell County will join them, and are scheduled to play the Lady Thunderbirds in Windsor. Green River was the big surprise on opening weekend. The voters reward them with the #4 ranking, while #5 Star Valley is just 1 vote behind. The Lady Wolves will host mostly 3A opponents this weekend at the Flaming Gorge Classic, while the Lady Braves have the weekend off.
Judging by the 3A scores from last week, #1 Douglas has jumped out a huge lead in the race for the state championship...but don't give them the trophy just yet, because there's plenty of basketball still to be played. Mountain View moves up to #2 after winning the Bridger Valley Tournament last weekend. The Lady Buffs as well as #4 Lyman (down 2 spots) will be in Sweetwater County, playing 4A opponents. Buffalo holds steady at #3 and Powell is down 1 spot to #5.
The 2A season got off to a good start with the top 2 teams playing against each other. Wyoming Indian prevailed and keep the #1 ranking, while Pine Bluffs stays at #2. Wright is new at #3, and have their chance to prove themselves when they (and #5 Big Horn) play the Lady Chiefs and #4 Greybull this weekend.
1A looks like it's mostly the west with 2 teams on top, but like 3A, don't jump to early conclusions. Cokeville holds on to the #1 ranking by 1 vote ahead of #2 St. Stephens. Arvada-Clearmont is looking to finish the job that they tripped up on last year. The Lady Panthers had the #1 seed out of the northeast heading into the regional tournament, but then crashed in the post-season. A-C is back in at #3 after winning the Upton tournament last weekend. Meanwhile, #4 Little Snake River and #5 Farson-Eden will join Cokeville in Shoshoni at the Wrangler Invitational this weekend.
