In 4A, the biggest storyline in the state (perhaps of the entire season) occurred in Casper, as the Natrona County Mustangs appeared thunderstruck and fell to the Thunderbirds of Cheyenne East 24-19.  The loss ended a 13-game winning streak for the Mustangs, dating back to their title run of 2010.  East, the #4 seed in the 4A playoff bracket will drive over the pass into Laramie to play #2 Sheridan, who advanced on Friday with a convincing 45-29 victory over the Gillette Camels.

In the 3A semifinal, another riveting storyline took place with the Powell Panthers coming from behind to upset top-seeded Green River on a late touchdown for a 24-21 final score.  They will move on to play heavily favored Douglas who topped Buffalo 20-14.

The 2A semifinal games were each competitive, staying within a single score throughout, but the two teams to move on were Lovell and Lyman.  Lovell prevailed in a nail-biter 23-20 on top of Newcastle while Lyman held on to defeat Glenrock 22-14.

No big surprise in the 1A matches as Southeast rolled over Riverside 35-7 and Cokeville marched to a 28-7 victory over Lusk.

In the 6-man ranks, Little Snake River topped Kaycee 66-15 and Dubois finished on top of Midwest in a barn-burner 75-47.

All five championship games will be played in Laramie next weekend with the following schedule:

Friday, November 11, 2011

2A: Lovell vs. Lyman 12:00 PM
3A: Douglas vs. Powell 3:00 PM

Saturday, November 12, 2011

1A: Southeast vs. Cokeville 1:00 PM
