Two teams battling for playoff positioning will square off tonight (Friday night) in Laramie as the Plainsmen host the Thunder Basin Bolts at Deti Stadium. Laramie is back home for the first time since Sept. 27, three weeks ago. Both teams are 2-5 on the season. The Plainsmen vie for their second straight win. They haven’t won back-to-back games since early in the 2018 season.

Laramie has never beaten Thunder Basin on the football field. They are 0-7 all-time.

The Plainsmen enter this game with some momentum. They are coming off a 62-6 win at Cheyenne South last week. Laramie dominated the game with 304 yards rushing. Four different players had a TD run. Max Alexander scored 3 TDs on five offensive touches. On defense, the Plainsmen recorded two safeties, had an 82-yard interception return for a TD by Evan Crum, and a fumble recovery in the endzone by Noah Reese. Weston Ennist added the first made field goal of his prep career. LHS also allowed only 75 yards of offense in the game, which included a minus-12 yards rushing.

KOWB’s David Settle caught up with Max Alexander and Dax Parvin to reflect on last week. Alexander talked about his new school record, the play the record occurred on, building on that momentum, and getting ready for the Bolts. Parvin spoke about what he saw on the record-setter for Alexander, his first career start, and some key areas for him moving forward.

Thunder Basin is coming off a 35-7 loss to rival Campbell County at home last Friday night. Their two victories are against Cheyenne Central and Rock Springs.

These two teams have posted similar numbers to this point of the 2024 season. They rank eighth (Laramie) and ninth (Thunder Basin) in total offense. The Plainsmen are at 231 yards and 18.6 points per game. The Bolts are at 222 yards and 14.9 points per game. They are eight and nine in rushing offense but have two of the top four passing offenses in the 4A football. On defense, they are eighth and ninth against the run, these two teams rank sixth (TB) and seventh versus the pass. In total defense, Laramie is No. 9 at 323 yards per game and Thunder Basin is No. 10 at 351 yards per game. LHS allows 28.4 points per game, while the Bolts give up 26.4 points.

The Plainsmen are led by senior receiver Max Alexander and sophomore QB Dax Parvin on offense. Defensively, Will Brinegar and Noah Kirsch have anchored Laramie all season long. They rank third and sixth in 4A defensive points per game. Thunder Basin’s key players on offense are QB Hadley Hudson and receiver Parker Wagner. Cort Catlin and Logan Mendoza lead them on defense. Catlin is No. 1 in 4A in defensive points. Mendoza checks in a No. 5.

The kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Deti Stadium in Laramie.
