Laramie Plainsmen Seek A Second Straight Win [VIDEO]
After a dramatic overtime road victory last week, the Laramie Plainsmen will try to make it two straight in Cheyenne Friday night.
It's 4-A rivalry week, and the Laramie Plainsmen take on their newest rival in the Cheyenne South Bison.
This will be only the fifth meeting in the series. The Plainsmen won the first three, but South prevailed in Laramie a year ago, 27-21.
Laramie comes in at 1-4 on the season, while the Bison are 0-5.
These two teams offenses put up similar numbers and are eighth (Laramie - 291.8) and ninth (South - 285.4) in 4-A, respectively. There is a slight edge on defense to the Plainsmen, who have surrender 353 yards per game. That ranks sixth in 4-A. The Bison are ninth and allow 386.6 yards per game.
South has a three-year starter at quarterback in senior Austin Barker. He has thrown for 801 yards and six touchdowns, but eight interceptions. Senior running back Marquez Jefferson adds the balance with 93.2 yards per game on the ground.
Junior quarterback Taylor Dodd continues to lead LHS. He's averaging 218.6 all-purpose yards per game between rushing and passing.
These two teams also possess the top two defensive players in terms of points per game. Junior linebacker Caleb Price leads 4-A with 101 defensive points this season. He has a sack and four tackles for loss. Laramie counters with the number two defender in junior linebacker Carless Looney. He's amassed 96 points, which includes 2.5 tackles for loss and a pass break-up.
Laramie head coach Chuck Syverson knows it's another key game for his team. He joined David Settle, the 'voice of the Plainsmen,' for a preview of this week's game. They discuss trying to keep the momentum moving forward; preview what to expect from the Bison; the possibility of weather being a factor in the game; and reflected on last year's loss to South.
Kick-off is at 7 p.m. in Cheyenne.
KOWB (AM 1290) will bring you all the action. David Settle and VerDon Hoopes will provide the call of the game. The broadcast is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
