(Update 12:30 p.m.)

The match between the No. 5 Laramie Plainsmen and No. 2 Cheyenne Central boys in the Capital City has been postponed due to weather and other issues at the field in Cheyenne.

The match is now scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. in Cheyenne. It will feature only the varsity match. There will be no JV match.

The weather has moved the location of Wednesday’s Laramie High School girls’ soccer match versus Cheyenne Central.

It will be played at the University of Wyoming’s Indoor Practice Facility (IPF). The times for today’s action remain the same with JV at 4 p.m. followed by varsity at 6 p.m. Laramie High School Assistant Principal and Athletics Director Jeremy Qualls made the announcement by email Tuesday afternoon.

As for the boys’ match in Cheyenne at Central, that is dependent on the weather. KOWB’s David Settle spoke with Laramie head coach Dan Benford Tuesday at practice, and Benford said there is a contingency in place to move the match to Saturday morning if the weather doesn’t allow for them to play today.

This is the final week of the regular season for Class 4A teams. Laramie also has a match against Cheyenne East on Friday with the boys at home and the girls on the road.

The Lady Plainsmen are 6-4-1 on the season and third in the conference at 5-4-1. LHS has a two-point lead over Campbell County for third in the 4A East Conference. They can’t get to one of the top two seeds.

As for the Plainsmen, they’ve locked up at least third place in the 4A East, but with two wins this week, they have the potential to move up. Laramie is 6-4-2 on the season and 6-1-2-1 in the conference. They trail Central by three points and Thunder Basin by four.

The top two seeds receive a first-round bye at next week’s regional tournament and an automatic bid to the state tournament May 17-19 in Jackson.
