Broncs Bulldoze Laramie, 55-14
Sheridan scored on their first three possessions and rolled past the Laramie Plainsmen 55-14 Friday night at Deti Stadium.
Aaron Woodward threw four touchdown passes, and Kyle Custis added three TD runs. It was the Broncs 13th straight victory against the Plainsmen.
Laramie head coach Clint Reed said you’ve got to relish taking on the No. 1 team in the state.
“You’ve got to be willing to take on that challenge. You’ve got to know where you sit as a program, and we know we need to grow as a program. That’s the barometer (Sheridan). I mean we ran into the best team in the state, and they’re the best program in the state. That comes from leadership, from top-down, from administration to the coach to all their players and their community. It’s obvious.”
Sheridan (8-0) took the game’s opening drive ten plays for a 7-0 lead. Custis took an option pitch and scored from 10 yards out. It was 7-0 after the first quarter.
The Broncs overcame a fumble on a punt return and took their second drive 13 plays down the field. It was capped by Woodward’s first TD pass to Parker Christensen from 14 yards out. Two more Woodward TD passes, one to Christensen and another to Aaron Sessions put Sheridan ahead 28-0 at half.
Laramie (3-5) was held to two first downs in the first half. They punted five times, fumbled once and ran two plays before halftime. The Plainsmen scored on their third drive of the second half. Nate Burman found Preston Buszkiewic for a 23-yard touchdown pass.
That was sandwiched in-between a pair of Custis TD runs of three and eight yards, respectively. That had the Broncs up 48-7 after the third quarter. Quinn Heyneman ran 73 yards for a score, and the running clock took effect.
LHS added a Baxter Tuggle 15-yard touchdown run with 2:33 left for the game’s final points.
Sheridan finished with 540 yards on offense. They ran for 349 yards with 117 coming from Custis. Woodward ended with 191 yards through the air. The Broncs had a total of 26 first downs.
Reed added, “They’re just extremely efficient and disciplined, and take advantage and exploit you in every way, and they do.”
The Plainsmen were held to 230 yards with most of that coming in the second half. Burman went 13-26 for 165 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Tuggle added 42 rush yards.
Reed also said, “We ran into a buzz-saw with that front four from Sheridan. I mean I was proud of them (our offensive line) for their effort, but again, we were no match for them up front, so that’s why we had to loosen it up later in the game.”
Laramie will conclude the regular season next Friday with Senior Night against Thunder Basin. It will be the first meeting between the two schools. Kick-off is at 6 p.m.
