Badger Creek Fire Up to 21,190 Acres, 80 Percent Contained

The Badger Creek Fire grew to 21,190 acres late last week, as hot, dry and windy weather conditions pushed the fire containment lines northeast.

As of Monday, July 2, the fire is 80 percent contained. Highway 230 and Highway 10, which were closed briefly on Friday, are open to all traffic at this time.

While wet weather on Saturday helped crews gain containment on the fire, warmer, drier weather has moved into the region, which will last well into this week, according to an update from the South and Western Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team.

On Sunday, crews assisted by dozers and helicopters continued to construct fireline south of Forest Road 533 along the northeast side of the fire.

There are currently 150 personnel assigned to the fire. Crews will continue to construct fireline south of Forest Road 533 and concentrate efforts in the Porter Creek drainage. A 40 acre patch of unburned fuel in the interior of the southeast portion of the fire is expected to create significant smoke each day as it ignites. Smoke from will be visible on multiple sides of the Badger Creek Fire to people in southern Albany County for an extended period of time.

A pre-evacuation notice issued by Albany County Emergency Management is still in place for the area along Highway 10, north of New Jelm to Woods Landing, then along Highway 230 from Woods Landing to the Fox Creek Road turnoff, and then north along Fox Creek Road to Forest Road 311A.
