Wyoming High School Boys and Girls Soccer Rankings: May 1, 2019
Each week a new wrinkle has been thrown in, to change the way the coaches and media vote in the rankings.
Some teams are finally getting the respect they deserve in 4A Boys. Jackson has turned the corner and has slowly ascended to the top of the West. The voters put the Broncs #3 this week, heading into their big game on Thursday at Star Valley. The Braves share the spot with Cheyenne East, heading into the last week of the 4A regular season. #4 Kelly Walsh is still in contention for the West #1 seed. Meanwhile in the East, #1 Thunder Basin has already wrapped up the #1 seed for the regional tournament. #2 Cheyenne Central can secure the #2 East seed with wins this week.
3A Boys teams keep moving around, except for the one that matters...the team on top. Worland is still the unanimous #1 team, and have the rest of this week off. Torrington has been moving up the rankings themselves, and are up to #2 this week. Powell made things interesting in the West with their win at Cody last week. As a result, the Panthers are now #3, and the Broncs drop to #4. Buffalo holds at #5, after their late loss last week vs. the TrailBlazers.
For 4A Girls, the only interesting action this weekend is in the West. #3 Rock Springs visits #5 Kelly Walsh to close the regular season. The Lady Trojans are the only team to score against the Lady Tigers, but RS remains undefeated on the season. As for the rest of the rankings, Cheyenne Central, Thunder Basin and Cheyenne East, maintain their rankings at #1, #2 and #4 respectively.
A big surprise almost happened in 3A Girls last week. #1 Cody threw everything they had at #3 Douglas, but had to settle for a scoreless draw. The Lady Bearcats moved up the rankings as a result. They share that spot with Rawlins, and the 2 teams play each other this weekend. The last time was a tie game. After that, Douglas gets to visit #2 Buffalo. Elsewhere, #5 Riverton has the rest of this week off.
