Wyoming 6-Man High School Football Team Could Tie A 78-Year-Old State Record

The Little Snake River Rattlers could make history this weekend, becoming the first Wyoming high school football team since 1941 to record nine consecutive shutouts.

The boys from Baggs haven't allowed a point this season, dominating their eight opponents by a combined score of 465-0. The top-ranked Rattlers trounced Kaycee in the quarterfinals 59-0, besting their average 58.1 point margin of victory this season to set up a semifinal match-up with Hulett on Saturday.

The state record for consecutive shutouts is shared by three schools, according to Wyoming-football.com. Rock Springs was the most recent team to do it, recording nine straight shoutout wins in 1940 and 1941. Sheridan didn't allow a point for three seasons, shutting out nine opponents from 1916 to 1919. Ten Sleep also recorded nine consecutive shutouts in 1935 and 1936. The longest consecutive shutout streak in the Class 1A Six-Man division was five, set by Byron in 1939. Kaycee set a six-man season record in 2017, allowing an average of 10 points per game.

Hulett comes into the game ranked #3 in the state with only one loss on their record. Shutting out the 8-1 Red Devils will be a tougher task for Little Snake River. Hullett has averaged nearly 43 points per game this season, including a 60-13 quarterfinal win over Farson-Eden. H.E.M. and Lingle-Fort Laramie will meet in the other six-man semifinal on Friday night. Little Snake River has yet to play any of the three remaining teams this season.
