The Laramie Rangers made it six straight wins with a doubleheader sweep of the Green River Knights Wednesday at Cowboy Field.

Laramie (7-7) won the opener behind Harrison Yates, 7-3. Then, the Rangers outlasted Green River in the nightcap, 16-14.

Laramie manager Brandon Ruckman said it was a good pair of victories.

“They took us in Green River, and we took them here. I think this team’s slowly coming together, and we hit our goal today hitting .500 (record-wise). Now we move toward Spearfish and try to win that one.”

Yates went the distance in game one. He gave up three runs, only two earned on five hits. Yates struck out seven with just one walk. Harrison also had three hits and two RBI’s that led an 11-hit attack for Laramie. Yates’ two-run triple was part of a four-run fourth where the Rangers took the lead for good.

Game two was back-and-forth. It featured six lead changes. Laramie took the lead for good in the sixth inning on Reid Baty’s two-run single. The Rangers also took advantage of nine walks and six errors by Green River.

Ruckman said they persevered and kept fighting in the second game.

“It’s great to see that we can come back from behind, so when we get in those tough games, it eases some tension, for sure.”

Laramie is back to .500 for the first time this season. They head to Spearfish, SD for the 8th annual Alan Tellinghuisen Memorial Tournament Friday through Sunday. The Rangers will play Douglas, Alliance, NE, the host Spearfish and Sturgis, SD.

“We’re trying to go 4-for-4,” said Ruckman. “They’re finally getting to where we need to be.”

Laramie takes on Douglas Friday at 3:45 p.m. from Spearfish, SD.
