The Laramie Rangers swept a pair of games from Rock Springs Archie Hay Post 24 in their 2015 home debut Wednesday at Cowboy Field.

Laramie (6-7) took game one, 5-4, on Wes Yerty’s go-ahead RBI-single in the sixth. They completed the sweep with an 18-8 victory in game two and needed only five innings to do it.

Rangers’ manager Brandon Ruckman was happy about the sweep. “Come out, get two wins and pick it up in the second a little bit more than the first, it was good.”

In the opener, Laramie got out to a 4-0 lead through two innings. Rock Springs rallied with four runs in the third to tie it. Finally in the sixth the Rangers broke through. Cameron Campbell reached on a bunt single and advanced to third on a Rock Springs throwing error. After a ground-out, Yerty smacked the first pitch he saw into right-centerfield for go-ahead run.

Yerty also shutdown Archie Hay over three innings and got the win on the mound. He allowed no runs, three hits and had a strikeout.

Albert Steiner closed out the seventh for the save.

Yerty went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored at the plate. Kacey Bernaski and Henry Yates each added a pair of hits. Joseph Legerski had a two-run double.

Reflecting on the wins, Yerty said, “It was a really big confidence builder, even though we didn’t really play the way we wanted to our first game… we played way better the second game than we did the first one.”

In game two, Laramie trailed early, but scored 10 unanswered runs in the final three frames for the victory.

Rock Springs jumped to a 4-0 lead, but the Rangers responded and held an 8-5 lead after two innings. With the game tied at 8-8, Laramie’s offense came alive over the final three innings. That included a six-run fourth inning. It featured a three-run, bases-clearing triple from Reid Baty.

Bernaski led the offense by going 4-for-5 with a double, triple and four RBI. Laramie also took advantage of seven walks and four Archie Hay errors.

Nate Hill was the winning pitcher.

Ruckman added for his squad to rally through some adverse situations for two wins was valuable.

“We haven’t really seen that all season. So, it’s been nice that they come back and fight and actually finish them off. That was really good to see.”

The Rangers return to action this weekend at the 7th annual Alan Tellinghuisen Memorial Tournament in Spearfish, SD.
