The regular season of Wyoming 'AA' American Legion Baseball is winding down for the Laramie Rangers.

Today and tomorrow, Laramie (20-22) will play their last two regular season games. Both are at home and are single, 9-inning conference games in the AA East against Cheyenne Post 6 and Sheridan.

Rangers' manager Brandon Ruckman said they understand what's at stake.

"They determine the seeding and where we're going to end up in the state tournament. The higher seed you get usually bodes well for you in the tournament; it's going to be important to hopefully come out with two wins, Thursday-Friday."

Laramie is coming off a tough loss in their conference opener at Gillette on Tuesday night. The Rangers fell 7-6 in 10 innings. Laramie played well and forced extra innings, but the Roughriders won it on a walk-off RBI double.

First up is Post 6 (47-14), who defeated the Rangers 18 days ago at the tail end of a tournament in Cheyenne. The final was 6-0.

Ruckman felt his squad hung tough in that game, but he doesn't know if they faced the best of Cheyenne's pitchers. Ruckman realizes they're in for a tough one tonight.

"One advantage we have is being at home. They (Cheyenne) play on a turf field, so the hops are a little bit nicer... It's going to be a little bit different for them, I imagine, being on a regular, grass field; hopefully that will play out in our favor."

The second game on Friday night has Laramie taking on the Sheridan Troopers (17-18). It will be their first meeting this season.

Ruckman said he doesn't know anything about them.

"They have about the same amount of games as we have; pretty similar record... so I imagine they're going to be somewhat similar to the same caliber as us, Rock Springs and Casper."

Both games will start at 6 p.m. at Cowboy Field. You can listen to both on KOWB (AM 1290) or online via our live stream. David Settle will call the action with the broadcast beginning both nights at 5:45 p.m.

Friday's game will mark the conclusion of the regular season. Laramie will head to Sheridan for the Wyoming 'AA' American Legion Baseball State Tournament that starts Tuesday, July 28.
