Laramie Plainsmen Begin Key Three-Game Stretch at South [VIDEO]
The Cheyenne swing wraps up Friday night for the Laramie Plainsmen with their final regular season road game at Cheyenne South against the Bison.
Laramie (2-4) enters off a tough 16-14 loss to No. 3 East last week. The Plainsmen stayed in the game with a key punt return touchdown and halftime adjustments on defense. The comeback fell just short.
South (0-6) is still winless on the year after they absorbed a 52-7 loss at top-ranked Sheridan. The Bison allowed 28 points on special teams and defensive TD’s by the Broncs.
Laramie head coach Clint Reed liked the fight he saw from his team last week. He’s hoping that continues Friday night at South. Reed also knows it’s difficult to face the double-wing offense, but he has confidence they can handle it.
After a tough offensive showing last week, the Plainsmen fourth in passing and eighth in total offense. They’re averaging 261.8 yards and 23.2 points per game. Defensively, LHS is still eighth at 364.3 yards and 26.3 points per game.
Senior QB Nate Burman is third in passing (169.2) and fifth in all-purpose yards (188) per game. Senior Chad Browning is still third in class 4A in receiving at 73.5 yards per game.
The special teams has been good this year, as Browning is second in punt return and Jason Upton is second in kick return.
Defensively, Laramie has seven defenders in the top 50 in defensive points per game. They are led by senior Daylon Puckett, who is fourth at 17.2 points per game. Garrett Worden sits eighth.
Cheyenne South is at 193.8 yards and only 5.3 points per game. They allow only 313.3 yards per game, but give up 44.8 points per game. Their only player ranked in individual statistics is their kicker/punter. Junior Trey Trimble is their leading rusher with 248 yards on 62 carries. He’s also the top defender at No. 35 in class 4A.
This will be the seventh meeting between the two schools. Laramie is 3-0 at South.
Kick-off is at 6 p.m. from Bison Field in Cheyenne.
