Eaton, Oppie And Morris Honored By Legion Baseball Coaches

Three Laramie Rangers were recognized by the head coaches of the eight Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class ‘AA’ head coaches as All-State in 2019.

Shortstop and pitcher Caleb Eaton received his second consecutive honor and was First Team All-State this year, after being a second-team selection in 2018.

Pitcher and centerfielder Tyler Oppie and catcher Aidan Morris both earned Second Team All-State for the 2019 season. This is the first honor of their career.

Eaton led Laramie in hitting average, total hits, extra-base hits, and runs scored. He tied for the team lead in walks drawn. The junior hit .412 for the season with 66 total hits and 53 runs scored. Eaton had 18 extra-base hits with eight double and 10 triples. He drove in 20 runs and was walked 25 times. On the mound, Eaton went 2-7 with a 6.84 earned run average and pitched 45 innings during the season.

Oppie hit .377 with 49 total hits and 24 RBI’s. He had 14 extra-base hits. Oppie was considered Laramie’s No. 1 pitcher. He went 3-5 with a 5.09 ERA. Oppie threw 53.2 innings in 17 total appearances with 11 starts. He had 71 strikeouts during the season with only 30 walks.

Morris was the Rangers primary catcher throughout 2019. He hit .315 this season with 46 total hits, which included eight extra-base hits. Morris led the team with 39 RBI’s. He scored 27 runs. As the catcher, Morris had a .962 fielding percentage, tops on the ball club.

Laramie finished 15-40 on the season but managed to finish among the top four at the state tournament.
