Wyoming Boy Inspires Rockies Wild Card Hero Tony Wolters
Colorado Rockies catcher Tony Wolters is being hailed as a hero after driving in the winning run in last night's Wild Card game. But his hero is a 9-year-old boy from Riverton, Wyo.
Carson Crofts passed away in February after a courageous battle with cancer. Wolters was one of several Rockies who visited Carson at Colorado Children's Hospital last year. They struck up a friendship and Wolters became Carson's favorite player.
After Carson died, Wolters met with a family friend who gave him a bracelet with the slogan "Fight The Fight, Carson Strong". The Rockies catcher now keeps the bracelet in his locker as a daily reminder of Carson and the lessons he learned from the brave boy.
"Baseball isn't everything," Wolters told AT+T Sportsnet earlier this season. "When we can make a difference, we need to."
Tony Wolters made a difference to Carson Crofts during his worst days. Now, Carson's courage continues to inspire Wolters on his best day.
