Defending 4A Girls state champion Cheyenne Central got off to a good start in Casper at the State track meet as all star Claudia Miller won the 3200 in 11.14.45. The Cal POly signee won the race handily over Finley Klinger of Kelly Walsh and Abigail Whitman of Laramie. But the Plainsmen of Laramie answered with a win in the 1600 sprint medley as Whitman had a great kick to to the finish to put Rock Springs in the 2nd spot and Cheyenne Central 3rd. Whitman, along with Rachel King, Ashlyn Bingham and Mallorie Hamel ran 4.13.65 to break the all class record. In the 4A girls long jump, Favour Wonjoku of Rock Springs took the podium with a leap of 18-10.25. Naya Shime of Riverton who was the 3A state champion in this event was 2nd and Paige Powell of Cody was 3rd. Grace Shaffer of Cody prevailed in the pole vault as she cleared 11 feet 6 inches. Aubrey Sanchez of Laramie was 2nd with Kayla Stibley of Natrona 3rd. Laramie has the early lead in the team standings with 28 points. Cody is 2nd with 26 and Cheyenne Central 3rd with 25.
