Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich says veteran first baseman Daniel Murphy may have rushed back too soon from a broken left index finger last season.

Murphy was injured diving for a sharp grounder in the second game of the year at Miami. That caused him to miss nearly a month.

It was his first season with Colorado after signing a $24 million, two-year contract last December.

Murphy was eager to make an impact with his new club, and Bridich thinks he hurried back.

The Rockies plan to work with Murphy to improve his defense, too.
