Laramie’s Alexis Stucky was ‘Very Excited’ to Earn Gatorade Volleyball Award [VIDEO]
Only a junior in high school, Laramie’s Alexis Stucky has already turned in a terrific prep career. Last week she just added a big award to her resume.
Stucky was named the 2020-21 Gatorade Wyoming Volleyball Player of the Year, and she’s pretty thrilled about receiving this honor.
The 6-2 outside hitter and setter has already committed to play volleyball at the University of Florida. She did that last summer, yes, before her junior year.
Then, she led Laramie to the school’s second-ever Class 4A volleyball state championship last November. In the title match, Stucky recorded 28 kills with a .404 hitting percentage. She also had 22 digs, with a service ace and a block. That victory capped a perfect season for Laramie, 24-0.
Last fall Stucky finished with 419 kills, 371 digs, 35 aces, and 32 blocks. She was selected by the coaches as the 4A Player of the Year. Already a three-time all-state and all-conference pick, and a two-time conference player of the year, Stucky now adds this Gatorade Award to an already impressive high school career.
WyoPreps’ David Settle talked with Stucky this week about her reaction to winning this award, what it means to her, her passion for the game of volleyball, what she’s working on to improve her game, if she ever thinks about other things than volleyball, and more. That’s part of the video at the top of this story.
Laramie head coach Jill Stucky also happens to be Alexis’ mom. WyoPreps spoke with Coach Stucky the morning of the Gatorade announcement.
Jill Stucky said her daughter was jumping for joy.
“The kid’s worked awful hard. She’s put so much time and energy into honing her craft as a volleyball player, and this is just amazing. It’s really cool.”
WyoPreps asked about her reaction as a mother, not a coach.
Stuck added, “To be honest, I’m just really proud of her accomplishments. Ya know what I mean? She’s just such a great kid and works so hard. There are times when her body hurts, and she’s just exhausted, but she goes out and practices anyway. Everything that she’s put into it, this is just exactly what needed to come out of it. She’s worked so hard.”
Stucky still has her senior season at Laramie High School ahead of her, and she’s looking forward to more competition on the volleyball court in the Cowboy State before moving on to become a Gator.
