Laramie Swimming Hosts Holiday Meets
A busy two days of competition is on the schedule for the Laramie Plainsmen swimming and diving team. The good news is they’ll be at home.
Laramie hosts its annual Laramie Holiday Invitational with a non-scored pre-invite Friday at 2 p.m. and the main event Saturday at 8 a.m. with diving first, then swimming. All of the action will be at the LHS Aquatics Center.
It’s been two weeks since the Plainsmen last competed in sweeping the two days of competition in Green River. A lot of training has taken place in preparation for this meet.
Head coach Tom Hudson admitted they trained really hard last week.
“We got 10 workouts in, then trained on Christmas Eve, and were right back in the water Wednesday. We’ve been getting a lot of practice in and they’ve been going pretty well. Everybody’s been pretty healthy. We’ve had a few guys in and out traveling, but for the most part, we’re here.”
The goal as always is more state qualifiers. Hudson said he expects a few new ones and more events to be added to resumes.
There are 13 teams entered for the Laramie Holiday Invitational Saturday, and most will be in attendance Friday. Hudson knows they’ll see quality opposition.
“All the top teams are going to be here. Kelly Walsh is a big one, Green River, Thunder Basin, and Cheyenne Central, so the top teams are here. There should be some really good competition.”
Also in the field are the Class 3A Lander Tigers. Laramie saw them two weeks ago in Green River and was able to top them both days.
Hudson said, “I don’t think of Lander that often, but Lander has a really, really good team. We were able to beat them in Green River, but as far as their quality, their top four guys stand up to anybody I’ve ever seen in the state of Wyoming, right now. They are really good. They lack a little bit of depth, compared to what we have, but we’ll definitely be tested by Lander.”
Laramie heads on the road to Gillette and Sheridan next weekend.
