The regular season concluded with some momentum for the defending champion Laramie Plainsmen. They beat East 2-1 in Cheyenne Saturday.

Blake Moore scored both goals that lifted the top-ranked Plainsmen to their third straight victory, and fifth in the last six matches.

Laramie and Cheyenne East had a scoreless battle for over 30 minutes until Moore found the back of the net in the 34th minute. It was 1-0 at half.

East tied it 68th minute, but Moore tallied again in the 73rd for the game-winner.

Laramie finished the regular season with an 11-2-1 overall record. They went 7-2-1 in the 4A East Conference. Thanks to Gillette’s loss last Thursday to No. 2 Cheyenne Central, the Plainsmen have automatically qualified for the state tournament and earned at least the No. 2 seed at the regional tournament in Cheyenne this upcoming Thursday through Saturday. LHS won’t play until Friday.

The second-ranked Laramie Lady Plainsmen had their senior night spoiled by fourth-ranked Cheyenne East in a 2-0 loss at Deti Stadium last Friday night.

After a scoreless first half, East tallied in the 51st minute when Sydney Miller’s cross found Jessie Erickson’s foot for the first goal of the match.

Laramie head coach Kim Whisenant said, “They just beat us backside, and that’s the player that we needed to keep in our eye, and we just lost track of her.”

East iced the match in the 76th minute when Erickson returned the favor to Miller. The result of the play was a goal, but also a very scary moment for the Lady Plainsmen.

While Miller got the ball into the net, the ball left her foot just before she collided with Laramie keeper Morgan Bury, who had come out to challenge the oncoming rush. Bury laid motionless for several minutes and was eventually taken off on a stretcher in an ambulance to Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

Both teams formed a circle at midfield to pray for Bury. The teams were even joined by a few players from Cheyenne Central, who had come over to watch the match.

The Lady Plainsmen concluded the regular season at 10-3 overall and with a 7-2-0-1 mark in conference matches. They will be the No. 3 seed at the regional tournament in Cheyenne this upcoming Thursday through Saturday. Laramie will play Cheyenne South in a loser out match Thursday at 4 p.m. The match will be at Bison Field at South High School in Cheyenne.
