Laramie Rangers Welcome Mountain View for a Twin Bill
The Laramie Rangers return home for a doubleheader at Cowboy Field on Tuesday night.
Laramie (14-20) is coming off a 1-3 road swing last week to Jackson and Cody. Tonight, they host the Mountain View Mountain Lions for a twin bill starting at 5 p.m.
The Rangers split their conference doubleheader last Wednesday at Jackson against the Giants. Laramie won the opener 3-0 but lost the nightcap, 4-3.
In game one, Brandon Chavez tossed a four-hit shutout. He threw only 84 pitches over seven innings with eight strikeouts and only two walks. Laramie scored two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh inning for the victory.
The Giants won game two on a squeeze play in the fifth inning. With the game tied, 3-3, the squeeze plated the go-ahead run. Mason Branch was the tough-luck loser on the mound. He allowed four runs, one earned, on five hits. Branch walked four and struck out two.
The split gave the Rangers a 2-4 record in Double-A conference games.
Last Thursday, Laramie was swept at Cody by the Cubs. They won game one, 7-3, and took the second game, 17-7.
Cody jumped out to 3-0 and 7-1 leads. The Rangers added two more runs, but it wasn’t enough. In game two, the Cubs took an early lead with seven runs in the first inning. Laramie rallied within 12-7 in the fifth, but Cody closed out the game with five in the sixth. Ben Malone had two hits, which included a double, and three RBIs. Tayton Moore and Sam Hoyt were the two losing pitchers in the twin bill.
After a fundraising car wash last Saturday, the Rangers are back on the diamond tonight.
