Laramie Basketball Faces the Challenge of Getting Two Wins
The biggest weekend of the prep basketball season is here for Laramie High School. They play in the 4A East Regional Basketball Championships in Cheyenne.
The goal is two wins to qualify for the state tournament. If you lose twice, your season is over.
The Laramie girls take on Kelly Walsh in their first game at noon on Thursday. The Plainsmen will play Cheyenne Central at 7:30 on Thursday night. Both games are at Storey Gym.
The Lady Plainsmen are 14-7 on the season. They are the No. 3 seed at this regional tournament.
The one meeting this season between LHS and Kelly Walsh was in Casper on Feb. 11. Laramie came away with a 65-55 victory.
As for the Plainsmen, they are 10-11 overall and the No. 7 seed in the regional tournament.
In the two meetings against the second-ranked Indians, LHS lost 64-51 at home on Jan. 21 and fell 51-32 at Central on Feb. 18.
Both programs are trying to end postseason droughts.
The last state tournament appearance for the girls was in 2017. The most recent for the Laramie boys was in 2016.
