Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Rankings: Feb. 21, 2019
We're in the calm before the post-season storm as far as the coaches/media rankings are concerned.
4A and 3A teams wrap up their regular season schedule this weekend. In 4A, #1 Cheyenne East and #5 Cheyenne Central will battle in Storey Gym on Friday. #2 Thunder Basin will play cross-town rival Campbell County, who gave the Lady Bolts all they handle in OT, the last time they played. #3 Star Valley and #4 Kelly Walsh wrap their schedules with road games.
There's no change in the 3A rankings, but there is 1 game of interest this week. #2 Lyman visits #5 Mountain View on Thursday, This is the 3rd meeting between the 2 teams, and the series is tied at 1. Elsewhere, Douglas is still the unanimous #1, Rawlins sits at #3 and Buffalo at #4.
For 2A and 1A teams, these are the final rankings of the season.
2A had a shake-down as a result of the final games of the regular season. Wyoming Indian continues to be the unanimous #1 team. The changes happen after that. As a result of some of the upsets, Greybull vaults up to #2 to close out the regular season. The Lady Buffs and the Lady Chiefs will both be in Riverton for the West Regional Tournament. Elsewhere, #3 Pine Bluffs, #4 Big Horn and #5 Southeast (who won the 2A SE) will play in Wright and Gillette for the East Regional Tournament.
The final 1A rankings of the season are the same as last week. The top 3 teams (Cokeville, Farson-Eden and St. Stephens) along with #5 Little Snake River, will all be at the West Regional Tournament in Lander. #4 Rock River will be the only ranked team at the East Regional Tournament in Douglas.
Disclaimer: The rankings have no official say on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don't read too much into the rankings.
