The Laramie Plainsmen are Looking to Build Momentum [VIDEO]
The third longest rivalry in high school football is renewed Friday in Laramie when the Plainsmen host the Cheyenne Central Indians at Deti Stadium.
Laramie (1-3) is seeking back-to-back wins against Central (1-3) for the first time since 2000-2001 according to wyoming-football.com.
Last year’s game was an overtime thriller in the Capital City. The Plainsmen snapped a 16-game losing streak in the series with a 35-34 victory at Riske Field. Conor Beeston hauled in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Dodd on fourth down. That gave LHS the lead, but the Indians answered right back with a quick TD pass. Central decided to go for two, and Laramie held for the win.
Plainsmen head coach Chuck Syverson said it was nice to get that first win; knows they can’t dwell on last year’s game; and even though Central has struggled, he knows they’re still very capable of an upset.
In the match-up, Laramie has a big edge offensively. They average 311 yards per game, while the Indians are only putting forth 116 yards per game. Central has been bolstered by a solid defense that surrenders only 277 yards per game. The key battle is between the top-ranked Plainsmen pass offense, and the Indians top-ranked pass defense. LHS is averaging 207 yards through the air, while Central allows only 50 yards per game.
The series dates back to 1909 and trails only Laramie-Natrona and Central-Natrona in longevity. The difference between the three adds up to a total of 15 days.
Kick-off between the Plainsmen and Indians is at 7 p.m. from Deti Stadium.
KOWB (AM 1290) will provide live coverage of the game. David Settle and VerDon Hoopes will call the action. The broadcast will begin at 5:30 p.m.
