Star Valley Adds Another State Wrestling Title
The Star Valley Braves went into Casper this weekend and battled hard. The class 3A matches were nothing short of exciting.
The Braves added its 23rd state wrestling title in school history. This is the fifth straight title for the team.
The team has two individual state champions. Star Valley also had 15 of its wrestlers place in the top four.
The first state champion for the Braves came from Trent Clark at 195 pounds. Clark beat Ben Banville of Burns/Pine Bluffs to claims his championship.
Parker Merritt sealed his state title victory at 285 pounds by pinning Hunter Pope of Buffalo.
When I spoke first spoke to Eddie Clark the head coach of Star Valley he was very humble and confident in his team and this weekend showing clearly showed the hard work his team put in throughout the season.
After the tournament concluded I was able to speak to coach Clark and I asked him if this was any different than previous championships
"They're all different, this one is special in its own way. This team had a lot of adversity and injuries but we overcame them" Clark said.
Coach Clark was very proud of his wrestlers success at the state tournament and even though some of his wrestlers lost in heartbreaking fashion the coach could not be more thrilled for his wrestlers.
The Braves continue its dominance in Class 3A as the team has the most state wrestling titles among all teams in Wyoming high school history.
