It's another busy weekend for Laramie High School student-athletes. That includes the six members of the LHS golf team playing at the Class 4A state championships in Afton. Tennis plays at the regional tournament, and volleyball, cross-country, and girls swimming and diving are also competing out of town.

Laramie Golf

For the first time since 2021, the Laramie Plainsmen golf team qualified for the state championships as a team. The five-member boy's teams took fourth at last week's state qualifier to punch their ticket to the season-ending event. Laramie is led by junior Carson Moniz, who is competing in his second state championship. It is the first for the rest of the team, which also includes Addie Plassmeyer, who is the lone girls' qualifier for LHS. They are playing on Friday and Saturday at the Valli Vu Golf Course in Afton, WY.

Laramie Tennis

LHS plays at the 2024 South Regional Tennis Championships in Green River on Friday and Saturday. These matches will determine the seeds Laramie will have at next week's state championships. Paulo Mellizo is the No. 1 seed at regionals in the boys' bracket. The Laramie girls got three No. 2 seeds at No. 1 singles for Peyton Thorburn and at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Laramie Volleyball

The only undefeated team in the state, at 13-0, is off to Casper for the annual Casper Volleyball Invitational. Laramie has three pool play games today against 3A No. 1 Douglas, No. 5 Sheridan, and Natrona County. Then, it will be onto bracket play on Saturday. Which bracket you play in is determined by your record on Friday.

Earlier this month, KOWB's David Settle caught up with seniors Michon Sailors and Jaidan Catterson to get an outlook on the 2024 season from the players' perspective.

Laramie Girls Swimming and Diving

The Lady Plainsmen are in Jackson on Friday and Saturday for the two-day Adam Denton Memorial Invitational. The swim meet has a prelims-finals format like Laramie will see at the conference and state championships later this season.

Senior diver Maggie Turpin and junior Libbie Roesler provided an outlook for this season with KOWB's David Settle earlier this month.

Laramie Cross Country

Laramie races on Friday at the Loveland Sweetheart Invite in Loveland, CO. This is the third straight week the LHS teams are competing in Colorado. Sophomore Flint Hartsky won his division last week at the Liberty Bell Invitational in Littleton, CO. Kieran Giraldo was fourth for the girls.

KOWB's David Settle visited with Hartsky and senior Gideon Moore recently to get a sense of this year's Laramie High School cross-country teams.

Laramie football is on the road at Rock Springs on Friday night. The Plainsmen go for their second straight win this season. You can find a preview in a separate story by clicking the button below.
