Laramie residents could see some smoke in the sky this weekend, when the Laramie Ranger District fire crews begin conducting prescribed burns Friday, April 27 and Sunday, April 29.

The Forest Service is hoping to take advantage of the good weather and fuel conditions projected for next week to conduct prescribed burns in the northern portion of the Pole Mountain unit.

The burn areas will vary in size from a few acres to 100 acres at a time. The prescribed burns are part of the ongoing Pole Mountain Vegetation Project in the Medicine Bow National Forest in eastern Albany County.

Some recreation in the area may be temporarily affected by the burn, depending on the location of the activities. Fire crews will be reaching out with recreationists to inform them of any temporary closures and signs will be placed on adjacent roads notifying the public of the burns as necessary.

Smoke from the burns will most likely be visible all weekend from Happy Jack Highway, and nearby forest roads, Interstate 80 and Laramie.
