With the arrival of spring, the City of Laramie is also anticipating the arrival of mosquitoes. The city is conducting an aerial application of mosquito larvicide for this Saturday, May 26th.

The application of Bacillus thuringensis israelensis is targeted to control nuisance mosquito larvae in irrigated areas and floodwater southwest of Laramie. The areas that will receive the treatment include the acreages along the Big Laramie River from 3 miles south west of City limits to approximately 10 miles southwest of Laramie. No application will be made within city limits.

The bacteria the city is using is environmentally friendly and will not harm other animals. The application will begin at daylight and should be finished by late afternoon. If inclement weather prevents the application, an alternative day has been scheduled for Sunday, May 27th.

Currently, no cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in Albany County and the city is rating the risk of infection at level 1, or low risk.

Daily information on applications can be found on the City web page.
