Laramie High School’s track teams won 13 events and finished in first and third at the Okie Blanchard Track and Field Invite Thursday in Cheyenne.

The Laramie Plainsmen scored 143 points and won seven events to top the 12-team field. The Lady Plainsmen came in third behind Kelly Walsh (154) and Cheyenne Central (139.50). They scored 112.50 team points and won six events, which included three relays.

Senior Albert Steiner and junior Jason Upton paced the LHS boys with two individual victories. Steiner won the 800 meters (2:03.49) and 1600 meters (4:32.30). In fact, Steiner led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1600. Upton captured the top spot in the long jump (21 feet, 9.50 inches) and triple jump (45-1.50).

Other victories came from senior Tyler Dahl in the 400 meters (50.13) and senior Eric Zafft in the pole vault by six inches (12 feet, 7 inches). The Plainsmen also won the 4x400 meter relay (3:27.45) by nearly three seconds. There were 11 other top-8 performances turned in by the boys’ team.

Three sophomores led the way for the LHS girls. Emmy Johnson crossed the finish line first in the 400 meters (1:01.35). Her margin of victory was over two seconds. Abigail Whitman ran to a victory in the 800 meters (2:20.24), and Aubry Sanchez took home first place in the pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches) thanks to the fewest misses.

The Lady Plainsmen swept the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays in Cheyenne. They added 14 other top-8 finishes on the day.

Laramie returns to action with three meets next weekend. The throwers compete Thursday, April 19 in Cheyenne. LHS is also scheduled to compete at the Pine Bluffs (WY) Invite Friday, April 20 and the Poudre Invite Saturday, April 21 in Fort Collins.
