Laramie Seeks Second Sweep of Bison in Cheyenne
The second round of conference play is here for Laramie’s basketball teams, as they head to Cheyenne to take on the South Bison in a doubleheader Friday night.
Laramie swept the first meetings two weeks ago in Laramie. The Plainsmen pulled an upset by 10 points, while the Lady Plainsmen won by nine.
For both Laramie teams they have to play four of their last five in the 4A East Conference on the road during the second half of league play.
Laramie Lady Plainsmen
Laramie (12-4, 3-2) sits in third place in the conference standings. They take on the last place team in Cheyenne South (2-14, 0-5), who’s closest league game was against the Lady Plainsmen.
Head coach Laura Pollard believes her squads’ adjustment for the second half of conference is more mental.
“We worked all week on scoring because since the Sheridan-Gillette weekend, we just haven’t scored consistently, but I think it’s all a mental game now.”
Pollard knows they’re playing for post-season positioning. She also feels this is the type of game they need to win.
Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
Laramie Plainsmen
Laramie’s (4-12, 1-4) lone victory the first time through the conference was over the Bison. Entering this one, the Plainsmen have dropped two straight by a combined seven points. They sit at the bottom of the 4A East standings.
Cheyenne South (10-6, 2-3) is coming off two close wins over their city rivals last weekend. With that, the Bison vaulted back into the rankings in a tie for fifth with Evanston and are tied for third in the league race. They’ll certainly be out for redemption after the loss two weeks ago.
Head coach Travis Brown says they’ve got to finish better to win these tighter games.
“We have to do, a continuing theme, a little bit better job on helping on the defensive end, but mainly just execute and a little bit better trust and discipline down the stretch.”
Game time is at 7 p.m.
KOWB (AM 1290) will air both games live with David Settle and VerDon Hoopes calling the action. The broadcast will begin at 4:45 p.m.
