Both Laramie High School indoor track and field teams placed in the top three last weekend at the Wyoming State Championships in Gillette.

LHS brought home four state titles, as two relays topped the competition and two individuals came away with a state championship.

Starring individually were Lady Plainsmen seniors Phoenix Farnham and Taylor Arsaga. Farnham captured the 400 meters in 59.93 last Friday. Arsaga pulled away to take the 55 meter hurdles in 8.56 seconds on Saturday.

Each team won a relay title last weekend, as well.

Farnham and Arsaga were part of the victorious 4X400 meter relay that won with a state record time of 4:08.40.

Laramie's boys won only one event. That was last Friday in the 4X800 meter relay. The Plainsmen topped the field with a winning time of 8:12.58.

The team race on the boys side came down to the wire. The Laramie Plainsmen lost it by a half point. Natrona repeated as the boys' state champs with 89 points. Laramie was second with 88.5 team points. Central finished third with 78.

On the ladies side, the Laramie Lady Plainsmen finished third with 66 points. Gillette won their fourth straight. The Lady Camels ran away with the crown thanks to 154 points. Runner-up Natrona was a distant second with 69 points.

All-State Honors

With the indoor track and field season complete, several Laramie High School athletes earned all-state honors.

Farnham and fellow senior Ella DeWolf earned all-state for a third consecutive year. Junior Kayla Sherrod earned the accolade for a second straight year, while Arsaga received the honor for the first time.

Senior Johnathan Freeman, junior Chris Henry and freshmen Tyler Dahl each earned their first all-state honor for indoor track and field.
