Laramie Faces Rival Central in Home Finale [VIDEOS]

Coming off their second win of the season, the Laramie Plainsmen take on fourth-ranked Cheyenne Central in the regular-season finale Friday night at Deti Stadium.

Laramie (2-6) enters off a blowout win over Cheyenne South, 55-2, last week. The Plainsmen rushed for a 4A single-game best 436 yards in their first home game in six weeks.

Senior Isaac Sell ran for 322 yards and four TDs last week. Fellow senior Colter Nunn added 86 yards and two scores. The two seniors have played key roles in their time at Laramie High School. KOWB’s David Settle talked with both about the season, their final year in prep football, the ups, the downs, and more in the video above.

Sell has run for 1,546 yards this season, the most in Class 4A. A large reason for his success, and that Laramie has the third-best rushing attack at 222 yards per game is the Maiava triplets that transferred in over the summer.

Micah, Matthew, and Michael form the right side of the Plainsmen offensive line. Settle talked some football with the Maiava boys, adjusting to Laramie, the football team, and got some insight into who’s more out-going, who’s the jokester/pranksters, the quiet one, and more.

The Plainsmen were blitzed by the Indians a year ago, 47-14 in Cheyenne. The last meeting between the two in Laramie was two years ago. LHS rallied for a huge 21-19 victory.

This game’s outcome could have an impact on the first through six seeds in the 4A playoff race. It doesn’t matter for Laramie, as they are locked into the No. 8 seed and will be on the road in the playoffs.

Cheyenne Central (6-2) has lost two in a row after a 6-0 start to the season. They lost at home to Rock Springs last week, 21-14. They’re led by UW football commit Andrew Johnson, one of the top receivers and defensive backs in the state. The Storebo twins, Brock and Brady, plus Nathaniel Talich give QB Andrew Cummins plenty of weapons on offense. The Indians are without running back and star linebacker Carter Lobatos, who was injured in the loss to Cheyenne East a couple of weeks ago.

This is one of the longest-running rivalries in Wyoming High School football history. It dates back to November of 1909. Central has the all-time lead, 67-62, with six ties in the series.

Kick-off is at 6 p.m. in Laramie.
