Lady Plainsmen Roll to Road Win in Sheridan

Lexi Pulley scored 21 points to lead the Laramie Lady Plainsmen to a 64-41 blowout win at Sheridan Friday night.

Laramie (14-4, 5-2) answered every time the Broncs made a run at them. It was a game where both teams went on runs to either close the gap or extend the lead.

LHS head coach Laura Pollard said she was very pleased with the performance.

“I was really impressed with the total team effort. In the second quarter, we kind of let ‘em back in, but I told the bench we have got to have everybody, so you gotta go in and at least play the defense. They did.”

After a slow start, a 15-1 run by the Lady Plainsmen put them in front 17-5. LHS led 20-10 after the first quarter. A 10-0 surge by Sheridan got them back within 20-17, but Laramie responded. They went on a 12-0 run to end the first half and led 32-17 at the break.

After LHS got up by 19 early in the third, back came the Broncs. Sheridan went on a 10-0 run and rallied within nine, at 36-27. The Lady Plainsmen answered with their own 10-0 spurt and were up 46-27 entering the fourth quarter. In the final frame, Laramie maintained control and won by 23 to complete the sweep of the regular season series.

Pulley went 8-15 from the field. She was 3-4 from deep and 2-2 at the foul line. Kade Setright added 12 points, while four other Lady Plainsmen scored six points or more. Laramie shot 41 percent from the floor. They went 6-of-15, 40 percent, from deep.

Pollard added, “It’s just about like a perfect duo (with Lexi and Kade). At the beginning, I said I want Kade on the ball (defensively) because she gets the better pressure… Then at one point, they switched up, and Lexi said you still want us that way? I said I don’t care, you’re both doing the job.”

Sheridan (5-14, 1-7) was led by Alli Puuri with 13 points. They were held to 36 percent shooting and went just 2-10 from 3-point range.

Laramie returns to action Saturday in Gillette. It’s the No. 4 Lady Plainsmen against the No. 1 Camels. Gillette won the first meeting in Laramie four weeks ago, 66-51.

Game time is at 2 p.m.

Laramie Plainsmen

The third-ranked Sheridan Broncs jumped on the Laramie Plainsmen early and rolled to an easy 68-50 win Friday night.

Sheridan (10-9, 6-2) capitalized on LHS turnovers and got in transition for a quick 12-2 lead. They never trailed. The Broncs surged to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. They were ahead 37-25 by halftime. The lead grew to 23 points in the third quarter.

Laramie (4-14, 1-6) out-scored Sheridan 19-14 in the fourth, but it was too late.

Plainsmen head coach Travis Brown said they got them to play the way we wanted on offense.

“The problem is we didn’t get them to play half-court basketball enough. Truthfully, it wasn’t one of our better rebounding efforts tonight, so that kind of came back to bite us a little bit. When you’re mental psyche can be a little fractured at times when you get in a quick hole, it’s sometimes hard to get the kids to get back bought in to going at it.”

The Broncs had three players in double figures led by Drew Boedecker with 14 points. Sheridan shot 49 percent from the field. They also had a big edge in rebounding, 36-22, over LHS.

The Plainsmen shot 41 percent for the game. Nate Burman had 16 points and five rebounds to lead Laramie. Frank Crum added 13 points.

LHS is back on the court Saturday to complete the long road trip. They play the fourth-ranked Camels in Gillette. Game time is at 3:30 p.m.
