Curt Gowdy, a former owner of KOWB-AM, was born on this day in 1919. Gowdy is best known as the longtime "voice" of the Boston Red Sox, but he was born in Green River, Wyoming and played basketball and tennis at the University of Wyoming.

Gowdy's love of Wyoming and radio came together when he bought KOWB-AM in 1966 and then put KCGY-FM on the air in 1983. The "CG" in KCGY are for his initials.  Andy Hoefer was hired by Gowdy in 1966 and still works as a salesman for the stations. He is close with Gowdy's family to this day. Hoefer said that during Gowdy's lifetime he usually came back to Wyoming for his birthday to go fishing and was extremely proud to have Curt Gowdy State Park bear his name.

We are ever grateful to Gowdy for what he did, not only for the stations of Townsquare Media in Laramie, but for the state of Wyoming and the broadcasting community.
