Next week, Maverick Schutte is scheduled to undergo open heart surgery.

Of course, this ain't Maverick's first rodeo. The seven-year-old Cheyenne boy was born with a congenital disease that affects his heart and lungs. In his short life, he's had more than 30 surgeries.

As a spokesman for the Children's Miracle Network, Maverick's courage has inspired people all over the world. Last summer, his meeting with Boston Red Sox slugger David "Big Papi" Ortiz made national news. The Major League Baseball Network chronicled his journey to Fenway Park in the award-winning feature "Maverick's Dream".

Recently Maverick's health has taken a turn for the worse. His family has consulted with specialists all over the country looking for answers. Doctors in Boston discovered that a stent in his heart has been blocking the coronary artery, causing Maverick to experience chest pains.

Next week's procedure will be incredibly risky. Please keep Maverick and his family in your thoughts and prayers. If you'd like to show your support, visit the Prayers For Maverick Facebook page.
