A former European Union Trade Representative will be giving a talk, titled “A New World (Dis)order” at the University of Wyoming on April 7, as part of a planned U.S. tour.

Considered one of the world’s most influential women, Baroness Catherine Ashton also served as EU Foreign Minister and brokered the Iran nuclear deal alongside John Kerry.

Stephanie Anderson, and associate professor in the UW department of political science, said she worked for two years with the Women in International Relations group, the Colorado European Union Center for Excellence, the UW Center for Global Studies and the Milward L. Simpson Political Science fund to create the U.S. tour, beginning at the University of Denver.

“We had to work together to make this trip worthwhile for her [Ashton], I am happy that I have such fantastic colleagues to make this happen,” Anderson said.

Anderson said Ashton’s talk will focus on the EU, from the Eurozone crisis to Brexit.

“It is a great honor to visit the University of Wyoming and to have the chance to talk with academic staff, students, and the people of Wyoming - I look forward to a good exchange of views on some of the foreign policy issues that dominate our agenda at this time,” Ashton said in a statement.

Anderson said the event is free and open to the public and she hopes Wyoming residents take advantage of the opportunity.

“We’re looking forward to having all types of people come, it’s not just for UW students or faculty, it’s for the people of Wyoming.”

Ashton will speak at 2 p.m. in the College of Education auditorium.
