LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team looks to earn a split during its two-game road trip Saturday at 2 p.m., as the Cowgirls travel to face Utah State.
Saturday’s game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with Keith Kelley on the call.
A LOOK AT THE COWGIRLS
UW (6-8, 2-3 MW) is looking to rebound from a 70-59 loss Wednesday at Boise State. The Cowgirls led for much of Wednesday’s game, including having a seven-point lead during the third quarter and carrying a six-point advantage to start the fourth quarter. The Broncos would overwhelm Wyoming in the fourth, outscoring the Cowgirls 28-11 in the final frame.
McKinley Bradshaw notched her third consecutive 20-plus point scoring effort in the loss as she scored a game-high 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Bradshaw now has four 20-point outings this season while her 14.9 point per game scoring average in all games and 18.8 average in conference-only contests both rank third-best in the league. Bradshaw ranks sixth in the league with a 41.2 field goal percentage while her 74-percent mark at the free-throw line ranks 10th-best.
Three other Cowgirls scored in double figures in the Wednesday contest as Grace Ellis, Allyson Fertig and Quinn Weidemann all had 11 points. Ellis also tallied her first-ever double-double as she also pulled down a game- and career-high 10 boards in the loss.
As a team, the Cowgirls rank in the top half of the Mountain West in multiple statistical categories including, free-throw percentage (76.4, 3rd), scoring defense (59.6, 3rd), rebounding margin (+5.1, 2nd), field goal percentage defense (39.7, 5th) and fewest personal fouls (11.8, 2nd).
SCOUTING UTAH STATE
Utah State is led by Kaylin Randhawa’s 13.5 points per game on the season. Randhawa leads the Aggies with 25 steals, 25 made 3-pointers and is second on the squad with 28 assists. Adryana Quezada is second on the team and the only other Aggie averaging in double figures this season, coming in at an 11.3 point per game clip. Quezada leads the team averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and is shooting nearly 51 percent from the floor, a team-best mark.
The Aggies enter Saturday averaging nearly 67 points per game but are allowing a Mountain West-wrost 78 points per game. USU is shooting 37 percent overall from the floor in 2021-22 and hitting nearly 28 percent of its 3-point shots. Aggie opponents are shooting at a 44-percent clip and hitting over 35-percent from beyond-the-arc. Utah State has used nine different starters thus far this season. Head coach Kayla Ard is in her second season with the program.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UTAH STATE
The Cowgirls have won eight consecutive in the series and 12-of-13 overall dating back to the 2016-17 season. Three of those victories have come in Logan in the last five seasons. UW is 3-1 overall during that span. Last year, the Cowgirls won all three against the Aggies, taking both regular season matchups in Laramie before opening Mountain West Tournament play with a 69-41 victory.
