Day one of the Wyoming Legion Baseball Class ‘AA’ State Tournament saw all the higher seeds prevail in first-round games.

The top two seeds from each conference were victorious, which sets up two interesting winner’s bracket games on Thursday.

Cheyenne 10 Casper 0

Bradley Feezer and Bailey Applegarth combined on a two-hit shutout for the Sixers. Cheyenne took advantage of five Casper errors.

The game was scoreless until the Sixers scored two runs in the third. They added five in the fourth inning and three more to end it early in the fifth. Andrew Johnson had two hits and two RBI’s, while Nico Vite added a hit and drove in three runs for Cheyenne.

Jackson 8 Sheridan 6

The Giants jumped out to an 8-1 lead and held off a comeback by the Troopers in the last two innings.

Jackson got a sac fly in the first before Sheridan tied it in the second. The Giants scored the next seven runs. They got three in both the third and fifth, plus a run in the fourth.

Jackson’s Seth Christiansen hit a three-run home run to left in the third that gave Jackson the lead for good. He was also the winning pitcher and threw 106 pitches over 6.2 innings. Mason Wright and Quentin Bruno had three hits apiece.

The Troopers scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh but their rally fell short. Justice Rees had two hits and three RBI’s.

Evanston 3 Laramie 2

The Outlaws held off the Rangers in a low-scoring affair.

Each team scored in the second inning. Evanston took the lead with a pair of runs in the third. An RBI-single and an error plated the two runs. Laramie loaded the bases in the sixth but a double play ended the threat. There was a fly out to leftfield and a runner tried to tag and score from third base but was thrown out at home. The Rangers scored in the seventh with the bases loaded on an RBI-single to center field. A strikeout and a ground out ended the game.

Conner Peterson had two hits to lead the Outlaws. Brendan Thompson added an RBI-double. Clayton Moyles went five innings for the victory, while Caysen Smith threw two innings for his fourth save of the season.

Gillette 11 Rock Springs 1

The Roughriders started hot and finished off the host Sand Puppies in five innings.

Gillette got a three-run home run from Mason Powell and a solo shot by Hayden Sylte in the first for a 4-0 lead. Rock Springs scored in the second. The Riders added three in the fourth inning and closed it out with four more in the fifth.

Powell had two hits and drove in three. Zach Brown added two hits and two RBI’s. Bode Rivenes and Jason Fink combined to allow only four hits on the mound for Gillette.

Thursday’s match-ups begin with two elimination games. Casper will face Laramie at 10 a.m., followed by Sheridan against Rock Springs at 1 p.m. The winner’s bracket begins with Cheyenne against Evanston at 4 p.m. Then, it’s Jackson versus Gillette at 7 p.m.
