Like a lot of kids from Cheyenne, Brandon Nimmo grew up rooting for the Colorado Rockies. His favorite Coors Field moment came in high school when a bullpen catcher threw him a ball. Last night, the New York Mets slugger made another lifelong memory, leading off with an inside-the-park home run while dozens of friends and family members cheered him on.

In his first Coors Field start, Nimmo added another home run in the seventh to finish the game 4-for-6 with four RBI. His two homers tied him for the team lead with 12. His first-inning home run was only the third inside-the-park homer in Mets history. After the game, Nimmo told reporters it was his first inside-the-park home run since playing for Cheyenne American Legion Post Six in high school.

"They seemed like superheroes," the Cheyenne East High alum said about watching Rockies games as a kid. "Now being a major league baseball player, you realize we're just regular guys that work on our craft like everyone else."

Nimmo's incredible homecoming made national news, with Sportscenter host Scott Van Pelt hailing it as the best highlight of the night.
