For a second straight year the Laramie Plainsmen face the Kelly Walsh Trojans with a berth in the 4A playoffs on the line for LHS.

One difference will be the venue, as Laramie will be on the road in Casper Friday night.

There are precisely 16 different playoff scenarios still in play that involve the possibility of the Plainsmen making or not making the playoffs. A win would go a long way towards eliminating the risk of not making it. There's also a chance that tie-breakers may decide the playoff bracket. LHS could climb as high as the sixth seed, but could also miss the playoffs.

Laramie head football coach Chuck Syverson knows the irony of being in the same situation.

"We kinda put ourselves there. We had some opportunities to change our position this year, but it is what it is. We're going into this game with an opportunity to actually have a high seed than last year, which was our ultimate goal in the beginning."

It was a year ago, when the Laramie Plainsmen put together a miraculous comeback and beat Kelly Walsh at Deti Stadium, 29-26. That propelled LHS into the playoffs.

Syverson believes that last year will serve as motivation for the Trojans Friday night. He discusses that, plus the end of the regular season and scouts KW:

Both teams enter with similar stats. They've had some productive games offensively, but have been vulnerable, especially against the run, on defense.

Laramie (2-6) continues to be led by senior tailback Andy Pearson, who has run for 768 yards (4th in 4A) and 13 touchdowns. He has also caught a t-d pass and leads 4-A in scoring with 14 total touchdowns.

Kelly Walsh (3-5) is led by senior Marcus Nolan. He has accounted for 12 of the Trojans 13 touchdowns this season. Nolan has seven scores on the ground and thrown for four more. He also has a return t-d.

The issue for Nolan and KW is that he will miss the game Friday. Nolan was ejected from last week's loss at Cheyenne Central and must serve a one-game suspension. That will be the game versus Laramie.

The last win for the Plainsmen at Kelly Walsh was in 2008.

The Plainsmen are in Casper to face the Trojans at Harry Geldien Stadium. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
