Wyoming Ranked The Third-Worst State For Distracted Driving

Wyoming is one of the worst states in the country for distracted driving, according to a new study.

The study estimated 3.22 distracted driving-related deaths for every 10 billion miles driven in Wyoming, the third-highest rate in the country and more than double the national average. While texting and driving is illegal in every state, Wyoming is one of several states with no legal restrictions on handheld devices or cellphone bans for teenage drivers.

Tennessee and Delaware were the only states ranked below Wyoming in the nationwide study. Texas and Montana round out the five worst states for distracted driving. Around the region, Colorado was the seventh-worst state, South Dakota finished in 11th place while Utah and Idaho ranked 23rd and 24th.

Nebraska was ranked the fourth best state for distracted driving. The District of Columbia and Rhode Island tied for the safest states in the study, followed by Nevada, Nebraska, and New York.
