The first state championship of the fall high school season is here with state golf on Friday and Saturday.

Each state championship will be 36 holes of medal play over two days. It features 18 holes both days.

The weather could play a factor at all three venues.

Class 2A – Niobrara Country Club in Lusk, WY

The Wright girls are two-time defending champions. The Thermopolis boys have won three of the last five state titles.

Individually, Wright senior Vicky Van Vleet is back to defend her title. The senior was by three shots in 2018. For the boys, Thermopolis sophomore Hardy Johnson returns to defend a championship he won a year ago by 19 strokes. The top 10 finishers are back from 2018’s state golf competition.

Tee times are at 10 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Class 3A – Valley View Golf Course in Afton, WY

The Torrington girls won the team crown in 2018. The Lander Valley boys have captured the last two state titles.

There will be a new state champion on the girls’ side. Two of last year’s top five return with Lander’s Rachel Stoinski and Riverton’s Sierra Brubaker vying for this year’s medalist honors.

In the boys’ field, Worland sophomore Karsten Simmons won the title in 2018 by two shots. Overall, eight of the top 10 return.

Tee times are set for 9 a.m. on both days.

Class 4A – Bell Nob Golf Course in Gillette, WY

Kelly Walsh has swept both team championships the last two years. The Trojans are going for four in a row on the ladies side and three straight on the gentlemen’s side.

There will be a new individual winner in both the girls’ and boys’ division. Four of the top 10 girls return, while seven of the top 10 boys are back.

Tee times are at 9 a.m. on both days.
