University of Wyoming Sees High Amount of Faculty Resignations

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — University of Wyoming officials say they have lost 86 faculty members throughout the past academic year, four times more than it would lose in a typical year.

The university suspects many of those that resigned left over concerns related to budget cuts and the central leadership of the institution. Others were part of a voluntary separation incentive program created by University President Laurie Nichols.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Kate Miller says the university typically loses between 20 to 25 faculty members annually.

The university is looking to hire permanent replacements for half of those who left.
