(UWYO.EDU) The University of Wyoming’s 2013 United Way campaign will begin Monday, Sept. 23, with a campus campaign kickoff at 4 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom.

The entire campus community is invited to attend the event, which will feature door prizes, refreshments and information about the United Way of Albany County -- and the 14 nonprofit agencies it supports.

UW’s 2013 United Way campaign committee has established a goal of $130,000. In 2012, more than 400 UW employees contributed more than $128,000.

UW employees may donate to the United Way through payroll deduction or one-time contributions.

“We invite everyone at UW to come to the kickoff and learn more about all the great things the United Way does for the community,” say Kim Zafft and Dave Bagley, co-chairs of the 2013 UW campaign.

UW students also are encouraged to attend the Sept. 23 kickoff and to contribute to the United Way. They may do so by going online to https://volunteer.truist.com/cng-uwa/donate/?fdn=54020&_vm10302425432_=UWW_LUW.

“Donating to the United Way is a great way for students to contribute directly to their community and develop a pattern of philanthropy that will extend throughout their lives,” says Brett Kahler, president of the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming. “I encourage students to give what they can, even if it’s just a little.”

The goal for the overall United Way of Albany County campaign this year is $420,000.

“The generosity of the UW community allows the United Way to help many people in need here in Albany County,” says Paul Heimer, the agency’s executive director. “Without the United Way, a lot of the programs and services that provide a huge safety net for the residents of Albany County would have to be drastically cut back or might even disappear.”
