The Laramie Police Department is looking for the owner of a black dog, resembling a cocker spaniel, that is believed to have bitten an 18-month-old child at Laramie's July 4th Freedom has a birthday celebration.

The incident took place at 12:30 PM on July 4th at Washington Park, police say.  The child's family was attending Freedom has a Birthday when a medium sized black dog snapped at the child.  The dog is said to have been being walked on a leash by a a couple; one a man with short brown hair, approximately 5'8", 140-160 pounds wearing shorts; the other a female who was approximately 5'4" and approximately 170 pounds.

The police say the family of the child were speaking with the owners of the dog, and the child allegedly fed the dog a snack.  It was not until the dog and its owners had left the area that it was noticed that the child had been bitten.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the dog or its owner are asked to call the Animal Control Unit at 307-721-5385 or the non-emergency Dispatch line at 307-721-2526.

The Animal Control Unit reminds that animal bites could involve exposure to rabies and that all animal bites must be reported to the Animal Control Unit immediately.  Should you be bit, it is imperative that victims of animal bites try to identify the specific animal and the owner's contact information while they are still present.  A picture using a cell phone can be helpful, if possible.
