Plainsmen Swimming Proves Its Power
The winning ways just continued for the Laramie Plainsmen at last weekend’s Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships in Gillette.
Laramie captured its second straight Wyoming big-school title by 71 points over Thunder Basin. While not their most dominating win, it was the first time LHS has won consecutive team championships since a three-peat from 2009-2011.
Head coach Tom Hudson would be the first to tell you that “winning never gets old.” He sat down for a visit with KOWB’s David Settle in the video above to discuss how state championships went. Hudson broke down both days of the meet, individual performances, the success of the Laramie program, and more.
The Plainsmen finished the two-day competition with 257 points. They won five events, three individual and a pair of relays.
Laramie was led by junior star Max DeYoung, who was part of four wins. He took first place in the 200 individual medley race by seven seconds and the 100 backstroke race by over four seconds. He also swam the lead-off leg in the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Another star was senior Christopher Bury. He won diving by nearly 47 points ahead of the second place finisher. Bury also swam a leg on the victorious 200 freestyle relay and was runner-up to DeYoung in the backstroke event.
They also visited with KOWB’s David Settle about the team crown, their margin of victory, their individual success, and more.
Laramie High School has swept the last four girls’ and boys’ Class 4A titles. Sure there’s pressure, but it hasn’t stopped LHS from its winning ways.
