Pastor Shot In Centennial Struggle

Authorities are investigating an incident in Centennial, Wyo. that resulted in a Centennial pastor being shot. Albany County deputies responded to the Centennial Valley Community Church around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26.

While responding to the scene, dispatchers were informed that the victim, later identified as 44-year-old Dennis Lynn Davis, had apparently interrupted a possible burglary in progress. They were informed that a struggle had ensued over a .380 caliber handgun owned by Davis that he had on him when he disrupted the burglary.

Upon arrival the deputies encountered a man who was apparently a friend of Davis who was assisting him along with medical personnel from the Centennial Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Davis advised deputies that during the struggle the weapon was discharged which resulted in a wound to his lower abdomen.

Davis described the perpetrator as 6’ to 6’1” tall. He said the unknown suspect was wearing a black ski mask, black gloves and camouflaged clothing.

Deputies searched the area of Centennial and Highway 130 until the early morning hours Wednesday, August 27. They were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided by Davis.

Davis, who is listed as the pastor on the Centennial Valley Community Church website, was airlifted to the Cheyenne Medical Center for treatment.

Several agencies responded to the scene including the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Albany County Deputies, and the Department of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab. Centennial Valley Volunteers and the Laramie Fire Department EMT’s responded to provide aid.

The incident is still under investigation.
