Managment Council Approves $100K for Committee to Hire Legal Counsel

The Legislature's Management Council has unanimously approved spending $100,000 to hire a lawyer to lead the investigation of state schools Superintendent Cindy Hill. Former state Attorney General Bruce Salzburg will serve as lead special counsel.

A special House committee is investigating Hill's administration of the Wyoming Education Department. She was removed as head of the agency by a new state law earlier this year.Hill has denied any wrongdoing and says it is a witch hunt.

Some Management Council members voiced concerns about the time and money the investigation might end up consuming. House Speaker Tom Lubnau says he doesn't have a timeline for how long the investigation will take. He says he hopes it will be done by the end of the year and without additional money.
