Most people would think that ski season would be over, but for many back country enthusiasts the long harsh winter only means there are a few more weeks to enjoy the mountain snowpack. Unfortunately for two skiers their weekend didn't go as planned.

Two unidentified skiers are in recovery from injuries sustained after triggering an avalanche this past weekend. The avalanche was 15 feet wide and carried the two over 600 feet. After the avalanche, the two attempted to self-rescue and were later taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The skiers triggered the avalanche on a 38 degree south facing slope at approximately 10,000 feet. The slide came just days after forecasters at the Bridger-Teton National Forest Avalanche Center warned that deep snow in the mountains still pose a continuing danger in the back country.
