Laramie Basketball Return Gets Postponed a Day
The resumption of the Laramie High School basketball season will have to wait another day thanks to the weather.
Winter Storm Eboni has hit parts of Nebraska with blizzard conditions and closed Interstate 80 this morning. That has prevented some of the teams in the tournament from being able to travel to Sidney, NE.
Organizers with the Cabela’s Holiday Shootout in Sidney, NE decided to postpone the tournament Wednesday. Sidney (NE) High School Activities Director Mike Brockhaus sent the following message to administrators and coaches:
“Due to the weather and travel, the Cabela's Holiday Shootout Basketball Tournament will now be a two day tournament with two separate tournaments taking place simultaneously.”
Laramie will still play Beatrice, NE in their first action Friday, but the games have been moved to the High School gymnasium after they were originally scheduled for the middle school. The start times are still the same, girls’ game at 2 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 3:45 p.m.
The other match-up in the bracket will be Sidney (NE) vs. Burns. Those games are at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m., respectively.
The Laramie girls will either play at 10 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Saturday, while the Laramie boys will play at either 11:45 a.m. or 3:15 p.m. Saturday. They will play either Sidney or Burns.
The remaining four teams, Mitchell (NE), Chase County (NE), Torrington, and Superior (NE) will play their own four-team tournament in the middle school Friday and Saturday. Laramie will not see any of those teams.
LHS basketball returns to action in the New Year with the Taco John’s Invitational Jan. 3-5. That features the first two home games of the season on Jan. 3 and Jan. 5. Laramie will also play Jan. 4, but in Cheyenne.
